I think that making NS mandatory develops Singaporean boys into men. Firstly, they will go through physical training, which trains them to become strong and fit. Since men are thought to be strong, this will make the be more "manly". This can be supported by the fact that we see every NS man fit. They are more strong than boys, and they are more independent. Recently, there has been a case of a NS man, and behind him is a maid who is carrying his bag for him. This is a behavior of a boy, and it is seemed that he had not undergo tougher training yet. When that is completed, I believe that he will be more dependent and will not rely on his maid to help him carry his bag anymore. Therefore, I think that boys can be dependent on other sometimes, but after completing their NS service, I believe that they will be stronger and more independent and learn to not depend on others that much.
